Fifty-Sixth Entry
Isn't it funny that after such a miserable time of it, one can have the brightest of days?
I woke up in the morning, still feeling groggy, used, somehow discarded, but glad that my husband wasn't at work; rather, in the children's room, making the older twins get up for breakfast. We're going shopping today, he said to them and I kissed their sleepy little eyes while trying to dress them. Uncle Rev's coming, Harry said to the children, but more to me, and so is Trinity. Perhaps we'll all visit the park too. I kissed Harry as hard as I could, hoping that God wouldn't rush him away from me too fast after Christmas, and that maybe Rev might forgive me and my ability to make things confusing and horrendous.
I spent the day with the younger children, dismissing poor T so that she could get some rest and spend some time with her friends. That girl is a godsend, but she wants to talk me out of my misery and I'm too selfish to part with it quite yet. Gabe and Belle and I all had a building contest with those big legos the size of my hand. Of course Belle and Gabe tied, and I was left in the dust. Then Oliver helped me make lunch and we all sat around eating cut up bologna and slices of swiss cheese with apple. Ginny clapped in my lap each time Oliver tried to learn to whistle. It is amazing that children never sense your inadequacy, even though I'm sure mine sticks straight out like a blemish.
When Rev walked in with Harry, he came right over and hugged me, lifting me off the ground like he used to when we were sixteen. Harry smiled at us and rolled his eyes and held Ginny to his chest like our goofiness might infect her. Suppose then, Paige, you hook me up with a hot little spinster you're acquainted with, since I can't have you, Rev said, but he was laughing and we were all laughing and Harry kissed my forehead like he always does. Rev winked at me, held out Trinity's hair and said, Notice anything different? He had finally given the poor girl the right kind of pigtails.
I hugged Trinity close and said, Darling, you're so lucky to have me. And she giggled and kissed me. She is, Rev answered. and he and Harry and I herded the children into the living room to play.
